Maytag Model Mvwc400xw Washer Not Running In Any Mode Except 'cold Normal'

Our newly purchased Maytag model mvwc400xw washer is not running in any mode except "cold normal".  Any time we try to run it in warm water mode or other modes (like "bulk"), even with very light loads, loosely bunched around the center modulator, it only goes through "sensing", then briefly spins in "wash" mode, then it stops and just sits there (no movement or water flow).  I none test it sat for hours before we manually ended the cycle.
