Clothes Won't Dry

I recently used the steam feature for the first time several weeks ago.  Now all of a sudden the clothes will run in the dryer for 40 minutes and be just as damp as when I put them in.  The whole inside of the dryer becomes wet.  My husband disabembled the vent line from the dryer that runs outside and removed the lint/water.  This did not fix the problem.  What do we do?  Please help.
