Why Does My Internet Go Down When Using Majic Jack?

I have tested my bandwidth and have more than enough according their specs. I currently have high speed cable internet with MJ installed on an old Gateway machine that is wired to the lynksis router. When the phone rings all computers that are wireless lose internet (not connection to router just internet). When the call is over internet returns.

Is your router secured?

If not you may have someone piggy backing off your internet and tying up your bandwidth.

Are you using a P2P or online back up program?

If so you will get booted off, magicjack almost maxes out your upload, and if something else like a P2P or back up like carbonite is also trying to use your upload, you won't be able to surf.

lastly, magicjack and vonage feed off your existing internet connect tying up your would be high speed internet unlike VOIP from your cable provider that is run across a seperate private network. yeah it may be $30 a month, but it's $30 a month for unlimited local and long distance that works and doesn't choke out your internet.
