Why Do I Need To Use An Area Code For A Local Call?

when i make a local call on my magicjack an automated voice tells me to use the area code. can you tell me why i must do this?

Just the way the switch handles the call. I t is not uncommon, you would have to do the same thing it you had voip from a cable provider.
