My Lift Master 3800 Pld Has Had Problems Opening And Closing. Wires Were Tighte

Now the GFI has tripped.  What causes this.  I have been told the circuit board/ chip to operate often blows in an electrical storm.  The GFI is very high to reset and not a safe climb.
