Where Can One Switch It On Or Off

I still don't know what's the problem,
But I found 2 alternative ways to shut it down.
1, is like what u say, hold the power button until it shut down, but I believe it is not good for the computer.
2, is to log off first, and click shut down from the log in page and it worked for me.
Hope my second solution can solve urs too. Becoz I really wouldn't like to use the button to shut down the computer every time.
