Lg Fridge Filter Not Filtering

I recently replaced the fllter on my lg bottom drawer fridge with in door water dispenser because the filter was overdue for replacing according to the digital indicator in the display on the door. Now with a new filter I don't believe that it is filtering at all. There are NO incicator lights for the filter and when I take the filter out it is light - not heavy light I would expect from water going into it.
