Cycling Not Caused By Dust

Hello.I have this model and the compressor will shut off after exactly 5 minutes. 3 minutes later it will restart. This repeats. Can someone knowledgeable on LG units suggest what this may be indicative of in terms of where the problem is? Control board, temperature sensor, run capacitor, or something else?

The compressor in your LG LP0820WSR air conditioner shutting off after exactly 5 minutes and restarting 3 minutes later is indicative of a problem with the compressor itself, the run capacitor, or the thermostat.

Compressor: The compressor is the heart of the air conditioner and is responsible for circulating the refrigerant through the system. If the compressor is not working properly, it will overheat and shut down automatically to prevent damage. This is the most likely cause of the problem if the compressor is shutting off after 5 minutes.

Run capacitor: The run capacitor helps to start and run the compressor. If the run capacitor is faulty, it can cause the compressor to overheat and shut down.

Thermostat: The thermostat is responsible for sensing the temperature of the room and sending a signal to the compressor to turn on or off. If the thermostat is not working properly, it can cause the compressor to turn off prematurely.

To diagnose the problem, you can try the following:

Check the voltage at the compressor terminals. The voltage should be between 220 and 240 volts. If the voltage is low, it could be a problem with the power supply or the compressor itself.

Check the run capacitor. The run capacitor should have a capacitance of between 3 and 5 microfarads. If the capacitance is low, the capacitor will need to be replaced.

Check the thermostat. The thermostat should be set to the desired temperature and the fan should be running. If the thermostat is not working properly, it will need to be replaced.

If you have checked all of these things and the compressor is still shutting off after 5 minutes, you will need to call a qualified technician to diagnose the problem further.

The cycling issue you're experiencing with your LG unit could potentially be caused by a malfunctioning control board, temperature sensor, or run capacitor. To pinpoint the exact problem, it's advisable to consult with a professional technician who can diagnose and troubleshoot the issue accurately. They can perform tests and inspections to identify the faulty component and recommend the necessary repairs or replacements.
