How To Select Transfer Options While On A Call Service Or Voicemail?

When I listen to my voicemail, it says "to delete message press 7" while on any other call service and it tells me to press a number for a transfer, it will not do it. I have used the dialpad on the screen and the numbers on the keyboard. So now i have a voicemail box that is full because i cannot delete the messages and i get stuck on any recorded call answering service.
