Vent Steam Dripping On Door

KitchenAid Dishwasher KUDS03STSS with vent on the top edge, during the wash cycle, steam is escaping, condensing on the underside of the couterop and then dripping down the front door.  Looking at the manual, I thought the top edge vent was supposed to shut during the cycle, is the vent open/close mechanism broke, anyone else have this problem?  Thanks.
