Makes A Very Loud Noise

My refrigerator freaked out last night and made a loud high pitched noise that drowned out the conversation. I had to shut it off for 30 minutes. It has not made the sound since but it scares me. The sound seemed to be coming from just above the ice-maker. HELP my warranty is almost up!
