Model Kebs208sss Defective Self Clean?

on my 1st self clean on the upper oven, the door switch activator melted & made the oven inoperable! The oven is 1 yr  old. $400.00 repair bill. Is this common? I was advised never to self clean again. Is this what I paid $2900 for? a high end oven that I cannot fully use?
