Installed. Front speaker wires produce sound. Rear wires do not. It isn't the rear speakers.

If you do not hear sound from any of the speakers, or you hear sound only from the front speakers, don't panic. There are common reasons for this, which can be easily corrected:
Check the Connections Check the audio connections from the source (DVD, VCR, etc.,) to the receiver: OUT from the source, PLAY IN on the receiver. Also make sure the speaker connections are securely attached.
Check the Input Selector
If you're not getting sound from any of the speakers, check the Input Selector. Most newer Kenwood receivers have an Input Selector knob that tells the receiver which input it should select. For instance, if you're playing a DVD, the receiver needs to know where you have connected the DVD player (DVD In, Video 1 In or Video 2 In). Take note to where you have connected your components on the back of the receiver (it may even help to write it down), so that you can accurately select the correct input.
[Note: If you have an older receiver (prior to 2002), check to see if it has a button labeled INPUT MODE. Press this button repeatedly until ANALOG is displayed. For sources with their own volume control, make sure to have this set around 75% of full volume. If MONITOR or TAPE 2/MONITOR is lit on the receiver's display, press the MONITOR button on the front panel to disable.]
