Venting An Over-the-range, Combination, Microwave Oven Hood.
My 1.6 cu. ft. microwave oven came with a "damper" assembly, (for preventig back-draft), and with instructions to mount it, (on the miccrowave), at the opening for the blower fan. ... Question 1) - Can the "main" duct/vent, (galvanized steel tubing), section, ... (3.25" X 10"), be attached directly to the microwave oven's top, which encompasses the "Damper Assembly"? .... Or, ... (as I have read), ... is it best to install a: 3" Long X 3.25" X 10" "duct extension" section, that would be placed, (As a "buffer" maybe?), between the mircrowave/damper assembly and the first section of the main, (3.25" X 10"), duct ? Frankly, I fail to see any significant benefit by adding a 3" Long duct extension, but I'd sure appreciate any and all advice. ...... Question 2) - This unit will be vented up through the roof, (using pre-existing ducting), to a "Roof Cap", ... does the "Roof Cap" need to have a "Damper", (in addition to the little damper assembly mounted on the microwave),... ?? ....
