Why Won't Kenmore Progressive Canister Run?

The plastice swivel which houses the 3 prong hose broke. I replaced the hose with a 3 prong Panasonic hose which fits perfectly. The vacuum was operating perfectly previous to swivel breakage but now will not turn on. Is there a reset somewhere or what else is going on?
