Agitator Doesn't Engage

Agitator not clogged. It turns free-- nothing seized. Belt also checks fine. However, unit only works in bare floor mode. Button in handle for agitator mode lites up when selected. No overload indications. No results from reset switch. Just no power to or through motor which drives belt. Also checked and cleaned contacts where handle plugs into agitator main housing unit.
