2004 Soanata - Overheating With A/c On

Sonata 2004 - overheating with A/C on but A/C still seems to work fine.  Temp guage went up to red so we stopped to let car cool and turned off A/C for journey.  With A/C off temp was normal.  Any idea of what problem is indicated?

Flush your radiator and replace the thermostat at the same time. Either the coolant is weak or the radiator is partially plugged. The added strain of the A/C running is making the car overheat.

You could also check out the A/C condenser in front of the radiator. It looks like a miniature radiator. Clear out all the bugs, dirt and grime that accumulates in the condenser. That may solve the problem, but I would flush the radiator anyway. If you car overheats too many times, you will do damage to the engine.

The model has 2 engine cooling fans, "LO" and "HI." The LO fan comes on when the engine reaches normal operating temp. The HI fan comes on when the A/C is turned on. If not the engine temp will go high especially while stopped or stop/go driving. Most likely the HI fan motor has failed (more expensive}, or the HI fan relay has failed {less expensive}.
