On the Husqvarna 223L trimmer, the U-shaped parts on the trimmer head that hold the string in place are called trimmer line retainers or line holders. They are designed to secure the trimmer line in position while the trimmer is in use.

The purpose of these line holders is to prevent the trimmer line from unraveling or coming loose during operation. They help maintain the proper tension on the line, allowing it to spin rapidly and efficiently cut through grass or vegetation.
