Thermostat Won't Kick On Settings

So I bought and gutted this older travel trailer. Owner passed but he was using a window unit. I took the cover off and the unit looked like it's never been used dusty a little. Ok so I tried to turn it on at the thermostat nothing I took the cover off and there was a diagram of the wiring. I took the furnace out so no heat all I wanted was the AC unit working batteries change not that so I looked at the wiring and put wiring together that says fan it came on yea so then it said AC and fan add yellow wire. I did then about 5 minutes later I heard the dang compressor on and that baby gets cold. So. Is it only the thermostat I need or is there a part missing All it has is 2 Duracell batteries. What do I do now ? I didn't get shocked yet but hey that Hunter unit is still brand spanking new!!! Jackpot! Okay help I'm a female and too old for this stuff i tore out all the plumbing, electrical fixtures flooring whoa that pergola laminate flooring is so expensive. So I can't hire no hvac. Help. Thanks!!

Make sure the switch is turned on. Additionally, look inside your electrical panel to ensure the breaker that supplies power to your heating system is in the "On" position. Inspect Your Thermostat - First off, make sure your thermostat is set to the "Heat" or "Auto" setting.
