Agitator Not Spinning

Removed the plate to clean the agitator which spins perfectly while the plate is removed but once the plate is screwed back into place agitator will NOT spin. What is the problem?

If the vacuum cleaner brush is not spinning the drive belt might be broken, stretched out too much, or might have fallen off. Check the belt and replace as needed.
