What Would Cause It To Make A Loud Noise & Burning Smell?

- Overheated motor: If the motor of the vacuum cleaner is overheating, it can cause a burning smell and loud noise. This can be due to the motor working harder than usual, which can cause the internal components to overheat and burn.
- Damaged fan: The fan of the vacuum cleaner is responsible for creating suction to pick up dirt and debris. If the fan is damaged, it can cause a loud noise and a burning smell as the motor continues to work hard to maintain suction.
- Clogged airways: If the airways of the vacuum cleaner are clogged, it can cause the motor to work harder than usual, resulting in a loud noise and a burning smell.
- Worn out belts: The belts of the vacuum cleaner may become worn out over time and cause the vacuum to make a loud noise and burning smell as they wear down.

If it smells like it's burning you need to see if you can distinguish if it's a burning wire costing smell where you'd ser smoke, if it is unplug it immediately and never plug it back in until it's been serviced by a tech who has a very good idea of how yo fix them.
These are actually very reliable models since all the typical motor work ( other than main suction) it powered by the main suction motors air movement. Part of the main suction is diverted into 2 turbines or turbo drive units which spin very fast and have gears that transfer the super fast spinning action into a slower but more powerful drive force that connects to the brushes and makes them spin. The other turbo is smaller and white in color (only present on models that offer upholstery tool connections) and it supplies a motor that's also geared down a bit to pressurize the water for the floor and when the hose is connected, it sends pressurized water to the upholstery tools.
So there's no way that you'll be smelling those, typically those go bad because Hoover makes them in such a way that they are doomed to fail from day 1. Whenever I get one of the Hoover spin scrubs the first thing I do is pray that the turbo drive unit is not made out of brittle plastic as they started using a few years ago. Those turbo drive units beec to be replaced since removing them without breaking the cases into pieces is nearly impossible. If you're lucky and have the good plastic that can be removed, then I take the unit apart and pull out all the gears and replace the bearings spin e they'll be rusted for sure
All that's needed to make them run for 10 or more years , like the original models did, is some grease on the bearings and the metal shaft that hoks them. Hoover stopped using brass bushings 20 years ago since those last a lifetime. They dropped those oerfectly designed set ups tmso they could use bearings that cist about 2 cents each they are sealed by design, but they are not water proof. They actually could say that there's no reason for waterproof bearings but theyd be lying since they already know that where those bearings are positioned , water will condense in that cap like area and every time you use it the evaporating water will collect inside that turbo unit and rust the main drive pin (which could be made of Stainless Steel or brass and last forever, they could charge an extra $40 and I'm sure people would be more than happy to get a problem free cleaner) which has a splined gear on one end and 2 cheap bearings. A dollop of grease would make the turbo unit last 12 to 15 years for sure
They used to pack the entire turbo unit with grease on the original models that came out around 2000. Even though they could run for 10 years bone dry they used to care about their products and made them to last as long as possible. That's never going to happen in this day and age. Nothing new is ever better than the original models of anything but cars now
Getting back to the burning smell. What is mostimdly happening is the switch got wet and the water is causing short that arcs across the wires or one of the bundles of wires that go inside the motor compartment are pinched and water is causing them to ARC against the plastic cover where it can't be seen.
However there is one more even more likely issue and that's from not using that foam cap that goes inside the tank to catch lint and other stuff from going I to the motor. Without it when you go back and forth with a full dirty water tank there's a chance water can splash up inside that opening and go inside the motor. You'll know it since the motor will change noise and never work right again. But hold on the most likely thing that happened was the cleaner tipped over while running and water went into the motor and completely saturated it. If you could have unplugged it immediately as it was tipping there's a chance that it could be saved but it requires removing the covers and removing the motor after you have made sure it's unplugged. Then shake the water out of it and use compressed air to get all moisture out. Leave it sit in the sun for w days then carefully oil the bearings or bushings on the end of the motor and spun it by hand if it feels like the inner bearing is rusted or not moving freely, them you'll need to remove the actuator or impeller from the inlet and it's not easy it's a reverse thread nut that's tight, you'll have no way to stop it from spinning so what you do is put a socket on the nut and use a ratchet. While holding the motor tightly you then hit the handle of the socket with a rubber mallet it use an air drive but make sure you're in reverse!
Taking off the cover isn't that hard but you'll need common sense to pry it off and unbend the tabs that hold it tightly mje she's you make note of how all parts were when you disassemble it and get them exactly back in order while reassembling. You'll send the bearing on e the impellor is off and it might be able to be like and if not the motor is junk. Replacing a bearing is far beyond anything that can be done unless you're a seasoned shop mechanic or a technician that has the knowledge ,tools and is able to order the correct parts you'll find that you'll be spending days or weeks looking for replacement parts if you can't get original parts from the manufacturers . That's why you'll pay $10 for a 20 cent bearing, the guy spent many hours finding parts and wasted money on top of it since parts are never correctly posted on line and there's a chance they're not going to fit so you pay for that service and you should be happy if someone can guarantee it's correct even at 1000% markup , it's unlikely you'll ever find one on your own unless you're super lucky and Ive searched many days and never been lucky yet!
Your carpet cleaner needs to go to a tech who knows that model inside and out if you're in the Phoenix area I can help you out!

- Belt: Yes, there is a belt in the Hoover Power Scrub Elite that drives the brush roll. If the belt is worn, it can cause a loud noise and a burning smell. You can check the belt by turning the power off and unplugging the machine, then removing the bottom cover to access the brush roll and belt. If the belt is worn or broken, it will need to be replaced.
- Brush roll: The brush roll could be damaged or obstructed, causing it to make a loud noise and smell like it's burning. Check the brush roll for any obstructions, such as hair or debris, and clean it as necessary. If the brush roll is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
- Motor: If neither the belt nor the brush roll seems to be the cause of the issue, it's possible that the motor is burning out. A burning smell can indicate that the motor is overheating or that the wiring is damaged. In this case, it's best to take the machine to a professional for repair.
Regardless of the cause, it's important to turn off the machine and unplug it immediately if you smell burning or notice any other unusual symptoms. Continuing to use the machine could cause further damage or create a safety hazard.
