Only A Hum When I Turn It On.

When I turn it on to any setting, there is a hum, but the fan doesn't engage. It was working fine the other day, but I had to turn it off because the noise was keeping me awake. When I turned it on the next day, nothing happened. Just a hum, but no fan. Any thoughts / suggestions?
