According to the rep I spoke to, it is possible that store policy on Military discounts has changed; possibly differs from store to store. I'd suggest that you call the stores in your general area to find out.
What I can tell you is that if you place an online order, you need to call Customer Service at 800-430-3376 to receive that 10% discount.
Another way to receive the 10% discount is to place the order directly on the phone. To do that shop online and put everything you want into your virtual cart. Print the cart view. Then call Home Depot Customer Care t 800-466-3337 to place the order by phone. Remind them up front about the discount.
Now about the way the Military Discount really works:
Active duty military, retirees, disabled vets & families receive a discount all year long. 10%
For veterans the 10& discount is available of "selected" patriotic holidays suchs as the 4th of July, Veterans' Day and Memorial Day. Apparently the actual day is at the discretion of the area, region or individual store.
Some store do extend the all year long discount to veterans as well. Apparently your store did not.
One last thing, Lowe's has the same policy.
