Compaq Presario Cq57 Shuts Down When Charger Is Unplugged

It sounds like either the battery won't charge, or the charger won't charge the battery. It could be either component causing the problem, so it's up to you which one you want to try replacing first -- either a new battery or a new charger. More than likely, one of those will fix the problem.
