i get 8 beeps once i power on the computer what does this mean

The BIOS beep codes for this model are not listed by HP.

I recommend that you get the user guide here: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01708878 and follow the troubleshooting flowcharts, they are quite thorough. The diagnostic LED indicators should point you to the issue.

Try rebooting into the HP Insight Diagnostic CD to allow it to diagnose the issue.
