To resolve this issue, please perform the following:
- Power on or restart the notebook PC.
- Press F10 when the HP logo displays.
- Select Security from the menu in the left column.
- Click Setup BIOS Administrator Password.
- Type an administrator BIOS password with a minimum of eight characters.
- Click User Management.
- Click Create New BIOS User account.
- Read the on-screen instructions and then click OK.
- Type a user ID and then select the user privilege level.NOTE: The user password defaults to the user ID set in Step 9.NOTE: The user password can changed by clicking Reset Password.
- Select System Configuration from the menu in the left column.
- Click Set Security Level and then select Change/View/Hide for each component listed.
- Press F10 and then click Yes to confirm saving the changes to the BIOS.The notebook PC will now prompt for a password each time the notebook is booted. The BIOS domain should be enable (by default) to enable the power-on password feature. The BIOS domain is changed through HP ProtectTools. When HP ProtectTools is installed, the BIOS domain is disabled but will be enabled once HP ProtectTools is configured. When configuring HP ProtectTools, the BIOS domain is then enabled. If HP ProtectTools is uninstalled, the BIOS domain will remain enabled.NOTE: If the BIOS password is enabled and the BIOS user account is created but the power-on password is not prompted, please run HP ProtectTools to ensure the BIOS domain is enabled. HP ProtectTools can then be uninstalled through Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. To remove HP ProtectTools, please perform the following:
- Click Start, Control Panel and then click Uninstall a program below Programs.
- Scroll to select HP ProtectTools and then click Uninstall.
- Please follow the on-screen instructions.
