How do I know what size impeller I need?The trick is to measure the radius and multiply it by 2 to get the diameter. Measure the outer most tip of the blade to the center of the bore to obtain the radius. Therefore, a propeller or impeller that measures a radius of 3" from the tip of the blade to the center of the bore will have a diameter of 6".
What happens when you increase impeller size?The results show that changing the diameter of a pump impeller affects the flow, head and input brake horsepower of the pump in different proportions. The centrifugal pump gives a high flow rate as the diameter of the impeller increases. The impeller of a centrifugal pump regulates the performance of the pump [4, 5].
How do I choose a pump impeller?As a guide, select a pump with an impeller size no greater than between 1/3 and 2/3 of the impeller range for that casing with an operating point in the high efficiency area (see Figure 4-8). It is also important not to go too far right or left from the B.E.P..
How do you find the power number of an impeller?Power = Np * n3 * d5 * sg * K
The value of the dimensionless power number (Np) depends on several factors including impeller design, number of impellers and location within a tank, tank baffling and fluid viscosity. Typically the power number is shown for mixing in fully turbulent flow.
