Temperature Control Knob

The temp. knob on my 31197R sticks at the last temp I set it to.  After it heats up then I can move it.  The cord also gets hot.  If it is left on 400 it will not move until it heats up to 400.  If it is left of 200 it doesn't heat up until he get up to 300.  This is a fire waiting to happen.  My oven is still like new.  Can I replace the temp switch and put a heavier cord on it?  If not it is going to the dump. After seeing all the complaints about this oven I think you should have a recall before someones home burns down.
