Toaster 22534e
my toaster wont stay down what might be the problem? is it something i can fix myself?

Well with common sense anything you take apart you SHOULD be able to put back together. With that said the spring that holds the baskets to the lever catch is either sprung or has come off. OR the metal that holds the basket to the catch has weakened and bent away from the catch.
Take a flash light and look inside the toaster and study it carefully. After you have a good picture of how it works take it apart and look for the piece that catches on the lever. MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG IT!!!

the "catch" on my toaster is not mechanical, but MAGNETIC! Just remove bottom of toaster (AFTER UNPLUGGING!) along with the handle on the lever. (Mine cracked when I did this, but still stayed on when replaced) Simply clean all contact points on the top of the magnets, along with the plate that contacts the magnets. Thats it----worked for me!
