Heating During Dry Cycle, But Not In Drum.

There is heat coming from the top of the dryer, but the heat is not getting to the drum.  If I run a dry cycle and touch the top of the unit I feel a lot of heat — it's hot. But after a full cycle my clothes are still very wet and don't even feel warm. The dry cycle used to work great. I understand this type of dryer takes extra long to dry clothes, but something has changed and little if any heat is actually getting to the drum.
