Go to http://godaddy.com and type in the name of the domain you want in the box where it says "Search for a new domain." It will tell you if the name is available or not. If it is, it will walk you through the steps to register it. They will try and sell you a lot of other stuff, just skip by it.

Call GoDaddy support/sales

Call GoDaddy. Their support is great and they can walk you through the process.

Like zotta says, placing an order on the website will give you lots of add-ons to purchase and you probably don't need them. If you call insead, the salesperson/tech support person will offer some specials, like registration for extra years, special discounts, or specials if you also order hosting. I've found that the phone person's specials usually are actually good deals--often better than what's find on the website.

Having said all that, if you can figure out the website, it is good to 1) create a GoDaddy account (write down your user name, password, and especially your new account number) and 2) create an order but don't finalize it--just leave it in your shopping cart. Search for a domian as zotta says and add it to your shopping cart. Then call GoDaddy. They will be able to view your shopping cart and advise you. Creating an account and picking out a domain name(s) before you call helps.

Decide the domain name clearly which you need. Then visit any reliable domain registrar and check for it availability. If it is available, Just proceed the simple steps to go on registering it. If your desired omain name has been already registered have a whois lookup on the domain name from http://www.whoisxy.com/ This would provide you with the registrar's information. You can then contact him or her for a domain bargain.
