Ge Induction Cooktop Repair?

After 4 1/2 years of working well our PHP900 made a pop noise and died. No display at all now, so not even an error code.  Power is getting to the main ac connectors behind the electrical cover inside the unit itself.  How do I start debugging? Do I start with the touch board, the gnerator module, etc? I've heard of boards being replaced one by one until the repair has cost more than a unit. Can this be avoided
