Garmin 50 Lm Stuck In Gps Sim Mode
Brand new unit that seems to be stuck in the GPS Simulator mode. There is a red x on the satalite icon. It also keeps jumping back to a Demo when not attempting to get out of the sim mode.

I had the same problem and the solution is mindbogglingly stupid and impossible to figure out! It took hours of research...
1. On the main menu screen press 'view map' as if you were checking a route.
2. Press on the speedometer in the bottom right corner.
3. On the left hand side there is the large circular speedometer. Press that and hold for around ten seconds.
4. The diagnostics page should open and one of the options is 'Demo Mode'.
5. Disable it!
Why this menu is hidden behind the speedometer and not in the systems settings is bizarre but this should solve your problem.
