How Long Should It Take To Update My Garmin Nuvi`1450 With The Latest Map?
I started the process six hours ago and it still seems to be running with no end in sight. Is this normal?

Can I assume you're uploading via a USB cable? I don't think there is any other way to update. The last time I updated my Garmin it took around 10 minutes. It should take no longer than 5 to 15 minutes. Any longer than that indicates a transfer failure.
Note that if the firmware is being updated as well you may turn the GPS into a brick. Garmin has instructions on their support web site to recover from that. http://www.garmin.com/us/support
I would cancel it, even if you have to rip the cord out. Power the GPS down, then try again.

I am glad I did not follow the advice of the guy who told you to just rip out the cord. Be patient. I updated my nuvi 1450 yesterday, and went to bed 8 hours into the process. It was 61% complete at that point. When I got up this morning it was finished. No brick. Ridiculously long, but it worked.
