Heater Module On 1995 Yukon

i have had my gmc in the shop four times and still not fixed, the heater module went out and would not take the commands to change where the air came out like the defrost , heat and so forth. replaced that with a used part and also the wiring harness in the back of it. also my mechanic put in a deal i dont know what it is called but it goes under the dash it some way controls the heater module too. is there a way to check these parts to see if they are ok and also do you have recalculate the computer to make it all work the way it is suppose to. thanks John Toth
