does he really need hot water to run ? Can we wash with cold water or tab water

Hot water is needed to dissolve the detergent. If the water is not at least 120-140ºF, then your detergent will not dissolve and the dishes will be not clean. Also make sure the sprayer arm assembly(s) are not blocked because they are only powered by water pressure and water.
