Turntable Ring

I have just purchased a frigidair counter top microwave over with convenience pad.   The support ring is from metal or stainless steel. No plastic support ring was received with purchase Can I use the ring, which is actually also not a ring, when using only the microwave? Or should there be an additional plastic support ring
