Inspect your tires visually. Cracks, punctures, uneven wear and worn tread will allow air to leak out triggering the Air Pressure Monitoring System. The tire should appear rounded even at where it meets the ground. A tire with a flattened appearance indicates low tire pressure.

    • 2

Remove the cap from the valve stem located on the tire. Place the end of the tire gauge over the end of the valve stem cover. Make sure there is a tight seal between the tire gauge and the valve stem. Press the tire pressure gauge toward the valve stem. The valve stem has a small pin inside the stem to prevent the pressure from leaking out when the cap is removed. Pressing them stem inward will allow the air to escape the tire. The pressure from the air released will push out the gauge indicating how much air is currently in the tire

    • 3

Inflate each tire with compressed air according the tire manufacturer's recommendations. The recommended pressure will be located on the side wall of the tire. Ford recommends a maximum of 35 pounds per square inch (PSI). Replace the valve stem covers.

    • 4

Drive the car for at least two minutes over 20 miles per hour. This allows the Tire Pressure Monitoring System to sense the air pressure in the tires.

      Turn the car off.

    • 6

Turn the key so the instrument panel illuminates.

    • 7

Press and hold the "Reset" button located to the left of the steering wheel. Some models have a reset button located in the center instrument panel. Hold the button for three seconds or until the warning light turns off.
