Am I The Only One Having Trouble With The Rear Brakes?

Because of leaking brake fluid I have had the rear left caliper replaced 3 times at my local independent mechanic.  Now I have taken the car to Ford.  They are going to replace both rear calipers with a redesigned caliper and new hoses to fit.  The charge is approx. $1200.  This seems like a recall situation to me.  Replace pads yes but the calipers?  I have about 80,000 miles on the car.
