Can One Fix A Leaking Clutch Hydraulic System Without Pulling The Transmission?

My 2006 Ford Ranger 4.0/4X4 has a leaking clutch hydraulic system. If I fill the reservoir every two days, it works fine. Otherwise the cluth pedal sits on the floor and I can't change gears. The truck has 87K Kilometers on it. That's it. My mechanic tells me he has to pull the transmission to fix the problem...and we might as well change the clutch while we're doing that. What do you think?
