Won't Stay Running.... Help!

i have an 06 ford focus hatchback. I live in Michigan and it is very cold right now. I have not drove the car for an entire day and has sat outside, not moved. It wouldn't turn on early in the day but then I tried later on and it turned on but didn't stay on. I turned it on again and slightly revved the engine, it stayed on. once I let the gas pedal go the engine shut off. I have no idea what is wrong.... please help1

Could be a couple of things. My best guess is that you have some moisture in your gas tank and it is freezing in the gas line. The solution to that is to put a couple of bottles of dry gas in the gas tank.

Go to your local auto parts store (or almost any grocery or convenience store) and you should be able to find it with no trouble. It's just a small plastic bottle with a few ounces of dry gas in it. I have added a photo to show you what the bottle looks like.

If you can drive your car to the gas station, add a few gallons of gas after your pour in the dry gas. That will help to spread out the dry gas and will reduce the percentage of moisture in the gas. Be sure to run the car for at least 30 minutes to get the dry gas into the line. It may take longer than that to completely straighten out the problem.

If that doesn't help, then you probably have a clogged fuel filter. The fuel filter should be located under your car and on the driver's side frame rail. Not hard to replace, if you are a decent mechanic. Just be sure to pull the fuel pump relay (should be in the engine compartment and marked "EFI" or something similar) and crank the engine a few times to relieve fuel pressure before removing the filter. There will still be some fuel in the filter and in the line, so have a pan handy to catch the dripping fuel.

Here's what the dry gas and fuel filter look like:
