2006 Ford F250 Diesel

i was driving and as i was driving my speedometer would go down and up like i was taking my foot off gas and putting it rite back on..continue to do this..next morning truck wouldnt start like battery dead..boost it off had alternator checked noth wrong with it and batteries are brand new. what could be the problem
