My 2000 Ford Contour Won't Start When I Turn The Ignition Key

The red light on the passive security system on the dash flashes about every 5 seconds.  When I turn the key the starter clicks but will not turn over.  However the battery tested good and is fully charged.  When I tried using jumper cables, the car eventualy started but immediatelyl cut out when I removed the cables from the other car.  Also, the windshield wipers started even though the wiper switch was off, and the accelerator needle was bouncing all around.  Seems like an electrical or computer problem.  Thoughts?

Try wiping off your car key with a cloth. The resistor in the key can get dirty and not complete the circuit when you turn the key in the ignition.

If that doesn't work, the key's resistor may be defective. Try your spare key or have a new key made and see if that solves the problem.
