Call the dealership and find out whether your car needs a transponder key. You can pre-determine this yourself if your key required batteries or had keyless entry buttons that enabled you to open the car without using the key in the lock. Get a price quote for a duplicate transponder from the dealership.

If your key has broken off in the ignition, instead of having your car towed, call an automotive locksmith. An automotive locksmith will come on-site and repair your ignition and also make you a key.

    • 3

Order your key from the dealership if your ignition does not require work and you are simply replacing a lost key. On average, a dealership should be able to supply you a coded key within a few hours. If you are unhappy with their price quote or want to look for a better deal, call an automotive locksmith and ask for a quote.

Test your new key upon receiving it. If your car does not start, have the key re-coded.
