1997 Ford Taurus Sho 3.4 V-8 Yamaha,rear Main Seal Replacement. Dos And Donts
I performed the task on my 97 taurus,. The seal I replaced was visibly deteriated,of course leaked much.Replaced with new seal no damage incurred on install to the best of my knowledge. Starts runs fine ,shut it down because oilcan flickers from extreme oil loss .appears as though ,yup ,coming from the same area oil? The obvious rearmain seal? Leaking asbad as the replacedseal which had a 2 1/2 in fatigue worn through gash. Before I do the walk of shame, can anyone shed light on this issue. Mind you I massaged grease on id of new seal ,as instructed. The seal id fit very nice on burrless ,clean shaft area,Od fit Snug and within reason into seal housing. Left it overnight, so I might take a gander at it before marrying mtr to trans next day to make sure a good fix next evening all buttoned up ,connect jumper start swtich to s terminal ,roll over several times with key off ,again looked reasonably successful . Started it up and looked under after oil press confirm ,WTF. Disappointment.Is there an area on the oilpan I may have not applied sealant on oversight but should have ? Or roll up my sleeves and do it all over again?
