Longer answer: you might be able to, but you will definitely void your guarantee, and you might break the thing in the process.
I am sitting with the same problem, and eventually decided to open the thing up and see if I can get the arm out like that.
However, the arm "locks" in the hub with two of those "snap" hooks. I tried to force them back (with a blade type screwdriver and a needle nose plier), but gave up when it looked like I was actually starting to damage the hooks (pretty soft plastic actually) without gaining any ground.
Hopefully you can see what I mean from the attached image.
Oh yes, of course the delicate electronics did not really encourage one to use force.
Currently everything I COULD get loose is back in the original box, with the hub and arm next to the box in my girl's closet.
