There are a few factors that determine who will show up in the "friends" section on your profile page. These include recent interactions (people whose posts you've "liked" and commented on, people you've messaged, etc.), users who have posted pictures that you've been tagged in, and if you've selected friends to add to your "close friends" filter, they will likely be in your "top 8".
