Do My Newly Purchased Re-chargeable Aa Batteries Need To Be Charged Before Use?

I purchased two packs of eight AA batteries when I got home I put four in my Energzier wall plug-in battery charger and the charger light indicated (in amber color) that the batteries were only half charged.The other four batteries I placed in another Energizer battery charger and the charger light up and the went black without showing whether the batteries were fully charged or half charged or not charged at all.None of the three indicator lights lit up at all.. What's going on?

LED lights glow green when batteries are charging. Note: If green LED light blinks rapidly, then a bad rechargeable or disposable battery is in the charger, replace the bad battery.
