If you have a receipt for the Sims game which shows the current purchase date then Electronic Arts Support should be able to assist. Therefire, I suggest contacting them to resolve the game key issue:
Phone: 866-543-5435, Mon-Sat: 9am-9pm CST
Choose your game from the automated options to be routed to a 'live' customer service rep for assistance.
The rep may need you to send the receipt in to them, via fax or email.
Tip: Check if the Sims game shows up in the programs listed in your control panel/settings and click repair to see if you can re-enter the key. Otherwise uninstall the program before contacting EA Support
Also, it is a good idea to delete cookies, clean the cache, and reboot your computer/laptop too
