First you need to remove the two screws hidden beneath the display panel (where the lights are on top of the canister). To do this pry up the panel using a flat head screwdriver and then remove the two screws that you find underneath.
Next you will need to release two tabs that are holding the cover on, these are located in the dust bag compartment. Position the canister so that you are facing the dust bag compartment and open the lid. To the outside of each of the lid hinges you will see a small rectangular opening in the housing. Take your screwdriver and press in either opening until you feel the tab disengage. Once these are disengaged you can lift the rear cover off of the canister.
From here you can check to see if you have power coming in through the cord reel to the SUMO board. If you do then your cord reel is good. If you inspect the SUMO and notice that the fuse is blown on the board then it will need to be replaced, along with the plastic telescopic wand, which may have caused the damage in the first place.
